“ENJOYING THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOR”
The
The McMinnville Garden club has 60 members, 47 active members and 17 new members that joined in 2004. This is the largest new member growth for our club in many years. With all this new enthusiasm mixed in with an already prolific knowledgeable club 2005 is sure to be filled with inspirational and rewarding fun.
We wish to thank the many individuals and business of McMinnville for their support and most importantly the window space they allow us every year for our posters and flyers promoting our beautiful McMinnville Summer Garden Tour.
The success of our garden tour fundraiser has allowed us to continue to better McMinnville and Yamhill County through a variety of ways in 2004: $100.00 to the Oregon Gardens, $600.00 to the McMinnville Downtown Association for hanging baskets, $250.00 to the Yamhill County 4 H Club, $220.00 for hanging baskets used on light poles for Joe Dancer Park and several boxes of cans to the Salvation Army can food drive. We are so proud this year to give $2,000.00 in school scholarships to 2 deserving ambitious students. #1. to Helena Verduyn a freshman at Southern Oregon University in Environmental Science. #2. Derek Stebbins a freshman at Chemeketa in Salem studying Horticulture and Fire Science. Our scholarship committee is always excepting applications for new scholarship recipients. Congratulations Helena and Derrick!
On a personal note I would like to thank Racheal Winter, Nicole Montesano and Marna Porath at the News Register for their helpfulness to me in communicating to the public the opportunities and endeavors of the garden club. I am lucky to have such a fine staff to work with all year. The McMinnville Garden Club thanks the News Register for the wonderful photos, articles and coverage of The Summer Garden Tour and Yard Of The Month. Thank you for caring so much about our community.
With a salute to our 2004 President Sharon Gunter and a firm and hardy hand shake to our new President Kim Jongedyk the baton is passed and the new years activities begin. Garden tours, luncheons, teas, the sharing of invaluable gardening tips, informative and interesting guest speakers and hands on projects you won’t want to miss. We are currently scouting for a good location in McMinnville to install a new $1,500.00 lamp post with hanging baskets. This is scheduled for March 2005.
Consider this your invitation to “Check Us Out”! All are welcome. Our Summer Garden Tour this year will be on June 26th featuring 5 gardens and is titled “A Mixed Bouquet”. A mixed bouquet also perfectly describes our garden club. A diverse group of people of all ages interested in cultivating gardens, relationships and our community. Thank you McMinnville for being a community that cares about endeavors that enrich us all.
